From June, 1998, to December, 2000, Shane's life became dedicated to the pursuit of a Master's Degree in geotechnical engineering at the University of British Columbia. The thesis topic was Geogrid-Soil Interaction Coefficients for Seismic Design, aimed at addressing the performance of geogrid (plastic sheets punched and drawn or plastic strips woven into a grid) embedded into soil and subjected to dynamic pullout loads. This has significance for mechanically-stabilized earth (MSE) walls and slopes in seismically active areas of the world.
